In order to meet the demands of the new food safety legislation coming into effect in January 2006 the CIEH has developed new qualifications and updated others.
The Training Division has worked with consultants and professional bodies to develop a range of new qualifications to meet the changing needs of the food industry.
As a food business you may be aware of the Sector Skills Councils
(SSCs) that have a remit to develop National Occupational Standards in each food sector. The SSCs for your particular sector would probably be one of the following:
Catering : People First ( www.people1st.co.uk )
Retail : Skills Smart – 0800 093 5001 ( www.skillsmart.com )
Manufacturing : Improve. - ( www.improveltd.co.uk )
Each Council will decide a framework of approved qualifications for their industry.
The benefit of this will be that the qualifications will be more relevant to the different food industry sectors.
In addition and in line with the National Qualifications Framework the new qualifications will now be named AWARDS instead of as at the moment, Certificates.
There will also now be 4 levels of qualification instead of 3. This is also to bring food safety qualifications in line with the National Framework:
Level 1 – Introduction to Food Safety 3 Hour Induction Course ( new under development)
Level 2 - Award In Food Safety Catering Book this course
( formerly Foundation Food Hygiene Certificate) ( Find Out More )
Level 3 - Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering
(formerly Food Safety for Supervisors)
- Award in Food Safety Management Systems
( new 1 day course in HACCP Principles)
- Hazard Analysis Principles & Practice Certificate
Level 4 - Award in Advanced Food Safety ( Find Out More )
Award in HACCP Principles ( 2 day course)
The new framework is expected to come into effect in early 2006.
Food Safety Training Solutions will ensure a smooth transition for current and new clients and will keep you up to date with the progress of the new qualifications.
